Hi, my name is Marianne Mortensen, and I am an interpreter of nature and science subjects. This web site is designed to showcase some of my work, interests, and accomplishments.

Interpreting nature and science is not only an engaging and worthwhile undertaking in itself, it is probably also the most important step in promoting scientific literacy in our modern world. Today, society demands of us that we comprehend and evaluate complex scientific issues (Genetically Modified Organisms in foodstuffs, to name one example), and the science/nature interpretation on offer at non-formal institutions such as museums and science centers can help ensure that we have the understanding to do so.

I base my interpretation endeavors on scientific inquiry. By prompting the audience to ask wondering questions about a subject, I ensure that the following dialogue springs from the framework of that audience. Not only does this help make the interpretation two-way and relevant, it also guides the audience down the first steps towards independent thinking and an inquiring mind.
